Our Director - TIM GUILES
Welcome, Tim Guiles! Tim joined Maiden Vermont as our "substitute" director in the summer of 2022 after founding director, Lindi Bortney, became ill from Covid. Tim had filled in in the past and was well-liked by the chorus, so this was an easy connection. When Lindi made the difficult decision to retire from the chorus in late summer of that year, it was a comfortable transition when MV Chorus offered Tim the directorship and he readily agreed! We know this will be a fantastic relationship and the chorus will continue to thrive and produce entertaining programs.
Tim Guiles is a professional musician living in Brandon, Vermont. His musical life started in Maine where he took piano lessons for 6 years when he was young. Most of the rest of Tim’s training has come along the way - - - by doing. He played for his school choral groups and developed a love for accompanying. In high school and college, he was involved with many musical theater productions.
In 1982 Tim discovered barbershop singing and subsequently went to Seattle to compete in the 1983 international barbershop competition with the Orange Blossom Chorus from Orlando, Florida. In 1985, he returned north to follow his engineering work in robotics. By 1992, Tim had moved to Vermont to move into environmental engineering and sustainability issues. During the next musical phase of Tim’s life, he accompanied many choruses - - - ranging from central Vermont schools, to the Middlebury College Community Chorus. He is often the rehearsal accompanist for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus. His singing opportunities shifted from barbershop towards jazz a cappella - - - 8 voice male/female. Musical Director theater work crops up now and then and has included memorable productions of “Sweeney Todd” and “A Little Night Music” at the Montpelier Lost Nation Theater, “Les Mis” at Barre’s Spaulding High School, “The Last 5 Years” and “Miss Saigon” at the Bundy in Waitsfield, and “Daddy Long Legs” at the Middlebury Town Hall Theater. Tim loves to help the Maiden Vermont Singers explore new (and old) songs as we enjoy making music together. |
